A word about what we do...

Caroline Prendergast - Head of BBC Training & Development

Caroline Prendergast
Training & Development Director, BBC
Broadcasting is changing faster than ever before. Audience expectations and new technology are redefining what we make, how we make it and on what platforms it's delivered.

The BBC is constantly innovating to meet these new demands. BBC Training & Development is at the heart of that change, ensuring staff and workers in the industry have the skills to meet these ever changing challenges.

The BBC's Charter Agreement confirms our responsibility to train the industry and we do this in a number of ways:

  • We work with Skillset, the Government-licensed, UK-wide Sector Skills Council for the audiovisual industries to offer subsidised training to the UK Freelance community
  • We offer our complete portfolio of courses and development solutions to individuals and organisations world wide
  • We act as development consultants to work with you and your organisation offering an end to end service from training needs analysis to evaluation

I wish you well on your learning journey and hope BBC Training & Development can help you on your way to a successful future in what is a fantastic industry.

Our development team:

For individuals:

We offer practical, expert, advice on what training is right for you and details of those funding packages available to help you with the cost.

For broadcast organisations:

We provide an account management service which gives you day-to-day support and we can provide any or all of the following:

  • Design and carry out training needs assessments
  • Work with you to create an effective training strategy to address your needs
  • Advise on the best training delivery options to meet your goals
  • Make our extensive range of scheduled courses available to you
  • Design and deliver bespoke training packages
  • Implement a rigorous evaluation process so that you can clearly demonstrate the value received by your organisation
  • Combine all the above elements to ensure that you get the maximum benefit from your training budget

Andy Carmichael - external development executive

Andy's spent 14 years working in industry and six years in broadcasting since joining the BBC. Andy has worked in marketing and as training manager for English Regions before taking up his current role heading up BBC Training and Development's activity outside the BBC.

He understands the pressures facing commercial organisations and the problem of keeping skills up to speed in a rapidly changing and dynamic broadcast industry:

"It's all about understanding the clients need and offering the right advice. From that first enquiry right through to after the training & development has been delivered, all of our customers will have one contact point who understands them, their training needs and will be on hand to support them - every step of the way."

Please contact us to discuss your needs.
