Description:
An introduction to the interactive TV landscape. More and more programme makers are being asked to think interactively, this course gives an overview of the digital multi- channel environment, the platforms and technologies being used and the range of interactive programmes and services currently available. The day will be a mix of discussion, viewing and creative exercises.

Who it's for:
This course is suitable for ANYONE who needs a basic understanding of Interactive Television. Staff working in Television Production, or other production areas who will be working in Interactive Television. This course is also suitable for those who want to raise their awareness of Interactive Television Production. 
This course can be run as a bespoke event and to make this course viable to run as a bespoke, the course requires a minimum of four delegates. 
This course CAN NOT be run on client's premises.
Outline:
Delegates will see a range of interactive television services, and gain hands-on experience using BBC services across the different digital television platforms. The course examines the following topics:  
Digital Switchover. The course covers the main ways of receiving digital television: digital cable, digital satellite, and digital terrestrial TV, and their different characteristics - delegates will have the opportunity to use each platform 
Delegates will experience a large selection of iTV applications, from all the programme making divisions. The course defines the difference between 24/7 and eTV. 
Design, Navigation and Usability issues. Designing usable interfaces for viewers is key to the interactive production process. Discover the common stumbling blocks for iTV, and ways you can avoid them. 
The iTV production process (including BBC eTV formats). The course discusses the QA (Quality Assurance) process, platform testing and the BBC's production tools: MOSS and ModCon. 
Audience Research. Central to all interactive projects is audience focus. The course examines who is using interactive television, when they are using it, and what types of enhancements have been successful. 
Idea development. Delegates will brainstorm adding interactivity to existing programmes, using existing commissioning paperwork to guide them through the process.
Outcome:
Course members will have gained a comprehensive introduction to Interactive Television, the digital Television platforms and the issues involved in producing Interactive Television. They will understand the commissioning route, and the ways in which interactive television programmes are funded. Delegates will also understand the BBC application development process, how this impacts on production schedules and the templates that are available to programme makers.
