Remembering the prime minister's name
- Jonathan Dimbleby
Even the most experienced broadcasters have moments where their mind just goes
blank and they suddenly realise they've forgotten who they are talking to and
what the last question was. In this audio clip, presenter Jonathan Dimbleby
describes some of his worst moments and how he keeps himself from losing track
of the interview.
"Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view"
- and this is never felt more acutely than during those embarassing moments
in broadcasting when everything just goes horribly wrong. Here is a selection
of some classic radio moments...
The
Battle Of Hastings
Dr Hastings Banda (1962)
The leader of Malawi in uncooperative mood.
Dog
On The Line Gordon Clough
In which theres errrm a dog on the line
Pips
On The Line
In which we long for the introduction of ISDN lines.
Confused
Of Tunbridge Wells (1950s)
Possibly the most patronising interview of all time - contrary to popular
myth, this was never broadcast. It was specially recorded by Radio Training
to show how not to do an interview. Listen and cringe.
