Fully approved by the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, Health & Safety at Work is a complete DIY course. It provides the participant with the information and techniques needed to ensure that every task they perform in the workplace conforms to the safest standards.

Whether it's lifting a few boxes, handling common hazardous substances or designing a workstation to avoid repetitive stress injuries, this learning material covers all the fundamentals.

From the employer's point-of-view, this tried and tested resource gives them a convenient and affordable solution to maintaining health and safety standards in their organisation.

The success of Health & Safety at Work is based on a combination of:

  • Powerful in-studio presentation by Michael Buerk, the BBC News presenter
  • Dramatic footage from BBC television
  • Interactive exercises and quizzes
  • Structured content that matches the IOSH certified examinations

Anyone who completes all eight modules will have all the information and skills necessary to be assessed for the IOSH Safety at Work Certification, an essential measure of your company's commitment to occupational health and safety. Health & Safety at Work is a highly interactive course that is designed for self-study on a PC. The content is delivered on CD-ROM and only takes a few minutes to install.

You will find that the course is divided into eight separate self-study modules, comprising:

  • Fire - including fire extinguisher training by the London Fire Brigade
  • Office Safety - good housekeeping, electricity
  • Display Screen Equipment - using computers and VDUs, RSI and posture problems
  • Lifting and Carrying - safe-lifting techniques
  • Hazardous Substances - dealing with solvents and cleaning products
  • Driving - including fatigue and mobile phone use
  • Other Risks - dangerous equipment, moving vehicles, ladders and heights
  • Security - psychological and physical self-defence

Each of the eight modules has its own quiz and you can track scores throughout the program. Trainees will find the interface bright and modern, with simple, intuitive navigations.
