Titles in Adrenaline

High-end Avid systems come with a large array of effects and filters. Here Simon Fox suggests some ways to create cool looking titles using Avid Adrenaline.

One idea that is used frequently is to have video showing through the titles as they roll across the screen. And it’s pretty easy to achieve. Here's how you do it:

1. Place your video footage on V1
2. Create a title and place it on V2 as normal
3. In the effects palette go to the 'Keys and Matte' effects, select 'Make Alpha Matte' and apply it to the title
4. Remove the effect, by using the remove effect icon (this should give black text over white background)
5. In the effects palette go to 'Key' select 'Matte Key'. Apply it to the title on V2

You should have your video footage showing through your title. If you then add movement to your titles by using keyframes, for example having them crawl across the screen, you can create a very effective looking sequence.

Another neat effect is to make use of the effects generators that many Avids have. Effects like, Fire, Rain, Snow can create impressive looking titles. I'm going to use the 'Fire' effect for my example.

1. Repeat steps 2 -5 as above
2. This time, instead of a video clip, go to the title tool and create a matte by drawing a white square big enough to cover the title screen. Save it and then drag it to V1
3. In the effects palette go to Generators, select 'Fire' and drag it to V1 on top of the matte you just created

The result should be the title appearing to be made out of flames. (See picture) Again, by adding movement it can look very effective.
